Unless you get a bonus you want, pets are currently useful only as ranch decorations (and the free large energy pack). Most people seem to leave their unwanted pets sitting at level 1, simply because there's no incentive to up them. Below is an idea that I think would make pets more interesting, and provide incentive to level up all your pets:

While pets can't wander too far from the ranch without supervision, they can be sent out to nearby areas to collect an item (gold, gem, or fruit) that the bushwhacker asks for. Details are below, itemized to be easier to read:

Duration: Pet Quests take 20 hours to complete, and the pet cannot be used outside the ranch during the quest.
Reward: The player can ask for gold, a gem, or some fruit. The quality of the reward is determined by the total level of the pets involved. I personally think the reward for gold should be something like 6-10 gold per level of pet, with a gem being no higher than a Jade (at level 40, rare chance), and fruit should be 3-5 per level of pet.
Limit: You can only have 5 pet quests active at any time. Each pet quest can have up to three pets assigned to it, allowing them to work together to get a better reward. When working together, you add the experience of the group to determine their effective total level (so sending out 3 level 1's will still be counted as level 1).
Notification: For this, I personally feel that there should be an item to buy that adds a timer to the bottom of the screen, next to the farming timer. That way, people who wish to know can see it, while it is hidden for everyone else.

Reasons: First and foremost, it promotes leveling multiple pets to get better daily rewards (as level 1 pets will give a pittance each time). Also, it encourages getting extra pets beyond the 13 needed for the Army of Lightness achievement, since you can utilize up to 15 for these (at least with my numbers :P). Finally, it provides another optional resource for players to manage, opening up possibilities for new Bush Bucks items, and encouraging more play time.

TL;DR - It would be awesome to send pets on daily quests for stuff, with higher level pets getting more awesome stuff.

I am already training multiple pets ... So I like it if there is a reward for that then.

If I may do a suggestion Jeremy; pets with +fruit drop, when send on a quest to get fruit have an small chance of getting fruit of a higher level.

Tommy you do not level your pets up this way, you still have to take them out and wack bushes with them.

Might be nice if you could send out the missions either for gold, gems or now runes... increase in away time accordingly.

The Army of Lightness sounds like it would be a powerful addition to the game. :)
I like these ideas and will make sure they get noted.
