Pokemon wasn't always smooth sailing. Yeah, there could be a row of trainers with only one or two types of pokemon, and your super effective attacks basically protected your critters from harm by making the opponent faint quickly. But then you'd meet someone with a different type, some kind of pokemon with an annoying moveset and abilities that makes beating it a long, arduous task despite the levels of the respective pokemon being fairly even.
Those were annoying, but man, what a pleasure it was to watch them fall.

Occasionally, you would lose. (Stupid Whitney and her stupid miltank.)

The trick is avoid losing again in the future is to train, maybe switch to a new type, and train some more.

If you find the trainers in one area to be too strong, take a break from that area and run through the weaker ones in the previous areas. You've already beaten them once, after all, so you'll know that they bring to the table and plan accordingly.

I've unlocked a fair amount of areas by now, and yes, I did find myself a bit overwhelmed at times. But now I can make my way through most challenges, as long as I keep track of the free healing spots.
It's better to run back and heal twice than to lose once, is my motto.

What area are you having trouble with? If you're working around the Vale mountains, please be adviced that in my experience the eastern range is slightly easier than the western. You might want to start in the former.

Sadly, I never had a friend to trade with, so no golem for me.

Anyway, back to talking about Mystic Guardians(!), we've getting off course here.

I feel the pain of strong enemy trainers right now, as I am trying to train up some of the young ones. My starter reached level 31, so I figured it was time for a change.
It feels weird, like it always does to train new guardians. I do not know these creatures, and yet I have to use them. Argh.

Oh, you mean having more than 4 guardians on your team? Sorry, that can't be done.

And I am terribly sorry for not being photogenic enough for your sophisticated taste.
