Gold Coins - Useful Or Worthless?

I know BW $ can be used to buy stuff, gems can be used to buy stuff, FB coins can be used to buy stuff.......but what about BW gold coins? Are they even able to be exchanged for gems or BW $?

Some Gates require you to buy things for Gold and Gems. As I once figured it, to get to all the zones one had to spend about 2 million Gold and 8 Diamonds worth of Gems. Spend all your Gold in the Auction House and you might have to play for weeks just to get into the Underwater or Jungle or Caves zones. Many people quit because they shot themselves in the foot and hated the boring repetitiveness of playing completed zones for 'nothing'.

Mind you, I am tired, so I may not have that number perfect. This game isn't like CrapVille, Wussia Wars or any of a metric ton of other games where the money you earn does Jack Squat. Also, when you get up in rank ( I have no clue your level, so forgive me ), the Auction House Bread gets bids that get pretty high. I haven't bought any in a while, I'm not spending more than $100,000 for an extra 5 mins of play.

The game will slow down for you now, so your coins will build up a bit better because you are moving through the zones so much slower than before. You have spells to buy for your spell book,(if you haven't already), you have those things that open gates but aren't keys, your Lightning spells (to go from level 15 to level 16 for your spell, it costs $200,000 and assorted gems).
