Crabs are not in the 16 squares of the regular caves. There is a sub-map cave-like area up near the rabbit hole on the left, that's where Ugbug is located and the crabs. Each crab get spawned after using a specific amount of Energy like many recent events and like the crows of the Far Away Lands (Oz).
