Multiplier Question

I used a power whack on a creature that gave me several more orange vials. I then did another power whack on a bush & the multiplier was used giving me about 15 hammers (for the guy looking for them). My question is: is that a correct use of the multiplier? It's happened before with quest items & puzzle pieces. Wouldn't the multiplier only be good for energy or coins?

It's a kindness from the Devs for having such insanely high collection requirements for some of the quests.
