I only have the rusty & shiny swords you get @ the start of the game. I'm currently @ Level 53 & want to know if there are other swords I can get to whack bushes/monsters with. If so - HOW?

Along with that, does the amount of energy stay the same or does it decrease depending on what weapon you're using @ the time? Say, for example, the shiny sword takes 6 pts. energy for a bush.....does another sword take 3 pts. energy for the same bush?

There are several Swords that you can get from the Blacksmith. You should have a Blacksmith by now, I think you get him by the 40's. There is a Sword available on the Island, a sword in the Museum, some in the Auction House and some in the Arena.
The only good swords are the ones that give you more Mana, but that's my opinion.
Here are all the swords:

If you have done the desert area (where the hobo who wants booze lives) you should have got the blacksmith. You have to build his shop, then he asks you to collect ore for swords. The swords don't determine the energy required/bush, that is determined by the level of bushes you whack. Raymond likes mana, but there are swords to increase energy wins, decrease nothings and sometimes, do more than one thing. The Tiki sword from the Island is a good one, but I like the diamond scepter. You won't get that for a while, though.

Yeah, I've got the blacksmith & have done some of his collecting. But, as I've pointed out in other posts, if it offers me nothing I have interest in, I'm not going to bother continuing it.

I've heard many people talk about the different weapons on here & getting results from them. Just didn't know if any of them reduced the amount of energy needed for bushes/monsters.....or was that a constant no matter what you used.

Nope, nothing in the game reduces the cost of whacking a Bush. A bush of Value 18 will always cost 18 to whack. Using Mana for a screen worth of those will always cost 72 Mana, but you can improve that a tiny bit with the mana thinamagie that reduces that cost 10% so a screen of 6 Value 18 Bushes can be whacked using up 65 Mana...
A sword giving you increased Mana will give you much more whacking ability than not having one. My 1590 Energy a day + twice that for my Friend Packs plus twice that for refilling twice a day plus 50% of that for my Statue can give me about 480 Bushes, but the Mana I get every day equals more than 2000 more Bushes every day...

Does the blacksmith ever ask for the materials to make the level 100 bars or do you just have to buy those with bushbucks?

When you get to Level 100 or a few past that and get about halfway through the Caves you will have 3 repeatable mining quests for those metals. Repeatable 20 and a day+20 and 2 days+20 hours respectively.
They cost 25 for each ore so 250 to complete one bar, and can take going in and out of 2 squares up to 100 time (over a half an hour) to complete the Platinum one in particular.
