So, I need a spoiler about the Crypts...

My museum has all these empty cases, and the curator has no more treasure maps. His assistant has maps for sale, but they don't provide museum items. The stuff I'm digging up in the crypts is just lying on the floor down there...Does it ever move up to the museum? Or does something else happen with it?

There is something like only 5 museum pieces/quests. All those other quests give you a CI each for your house or your character, there are something like 10 of those.
These are in the Museum, talk to both people, but I think you have to finish the ones for Museum items before the other person has any for you.

Now as to the Crypts, that is just another area/zone of squares to work on.

Thanks! I've done everything for the curator, and all he says is "maybe in another update" so I guess those museum cases will stay empty for a while. As you said, the other character is offering me CIs, which is not bad. I was just kinda hoping the Crypt treasures would migrate up to the Museum display.

Ah, now I know what you mean. But in addition to the Crypt, many squares have what I call non-monsters in their jigsaw puzzle. The profile of anyone like me who is 100% shows 105 monsters and then later on say 171, so there are 66 things that are 'invisible'.
They were not all initially invisible, the first few were in the Underwater zones and existed in the profile for a while, about a week, until the Developers decided to negate the possibility of any of us to see their cleverness. Here is what those were called, see what they cleverly spell out:
Rune of Kronos An ancient rune used to power the Portal of the Tides.
Rune of Ramsy An ancient rune used to power the Portal of the Tides.
Rune of Archimedes An ancient rune used to power the Portal of the Tides.
Rune of Konga An ancient rune used to power the Portal of the Tides.
Rune of Einstein An ancient rune used to power the Portal of the Tides.
Rune of Norwhal An ancient rune used to power the Portal of the Tides.

Very cool, I think you alluded to that in a previous post. If those don't end up in the Museum, either, well...Something should. After all, it's good motivation for an adventurer to stock the local place. If the developers aren't cool with that, then we should release the KRAKEN!

I had thought that after they redesigned the zoos and put that unused building there that it might be used for something. But there is no way that 66 things can fit in one place, or 2 if you also count the Museum.
Even if they group the 6 Runes, and the 8 Pages, and the 8 Unicorn Baits, and the 10 Christmas 2011 things (yes for some reason they add into that number), that leaves a ton of items, too many.
