I was treasure hunting in the Deep Forest using a level 22 Bhadington and a level 24 Squiddle to defeat a level 17 Treedle, a level 17 Fengel and a level 17 Kowa. When the battle finished and I was awarded XP, my Bhadington got 203XP and my Squiddle got 204XP (which leveled it to 25).

Why did my Squiddle earn more XP than my Bhadington? I thought that lower level Guardians earned more XP than higher level Guardians.

It depends on how much they did.

Yeah, it's how much dmg. they did, how many they "killed", and how many hits they took.

far as i can tell it is actually based simply on how many guardians they face.. thats why starting with a low level guardian then switching will help them level up fast.. here is an example with lower level guardians...

lvl 3 vs lvl 4 will get you 172xp
lvl 8 vs lvl 4 will get you 94xp
if while going against a lvl 4 you start with the lvl 3, then switch to the lvl 8,
the lvl 3 will get 86, and the lvl 8 will get 47
