Maybe its just me, but I never seem to have the higher level gems. I trade up constantly, but still have many items to buy from the areas. It would be nice there was some other way to get gems. Maybe some of those unused tokens too :)

Believe me, Jason - once you buy all the CIs that are offered up for gems, you'll start stockpiling them like crazy. I have 33 diamonds in inventory (and believe me when I say I did NOT whack up that many!)

Can I ask what level you're at?

I didn't WHACK 33 diamonds - I traded up for nearly all of them. All I'm trying to point out is that, once you've bought the items that can be bought with the gems, they'll start to pile up in your inventory.

No, that is not an idea for this game, it will never happen because these Developers know the 'real' world..
Any game that allows you to send specific things from one person to another is prone to complete cheating by people making many fake accounts just to be able to send things to their 'real' account.
The kind of giving in this game isn't like that except perhaps for Statue Fragments. Other stuff is just loyalty energy, mana, power or gems, and the occasional help with peoples houses (at least there you have to reach a certain level before you can get help), and Gems and Gold for helping with Giants and Chests. That's it, and that's more than enough.

To get more Gems, use a Sword that increases Gems and whack a lot using Power hoping for lots of Topazes.

And thank the 'magical hourglass' for the lack of gems, and the whining of people that leveling 'takes too long' for the introduction of the accursed thing in the first place. People who started at day 1 leveled by whacking, for days and days, accumulating gems as they went. Now, the newer players zoom through the first 50 levels and are stunned to discover how long it actually SHOULD take to complete a level. They find themselves too high in the levels with too few gems and too little gold to effectively play. The moral? When you find yourself with a lull in playing (say between 65 and 70) or waiting for an update, whack away at something and accumulate some of those gems and gold.

Just relaying facts that you might not be aware of, that's all.

And another one is that some people who have a distinct lack of Gold are probably victims of their own inability to control themselves. The addition of the accursed Auction House is partly to blame for that, but ones own self control is more to blame.

I've found that I tend to alternate between running low on gems with many coins and running low on coins with many gems. :P

You can get any gem at any level, but your likelihood does improve based on two things:
1. What level the bush/monster is.
2. What level you are.

As those two values increase, your odds of getting a more-valuable gem also increase.

Ex: Sapphires used to be rare for me, now they are only slightly uncommon.

EDIT:
Also, bushes with values greater than about 4 to 6 (not exactly sure) won't drop Agates.
