I have some suggestions that would improve the user experience for the forums:

1) If you ctrl-click on subforums and threads to open the link in a new tab, the current window also follows that link. Make it stop doing this.

2) The forum software does not mark threads as read when you read them. Please fix this, and add a link to the main forum and subforum pages to mark all threads as read.

If you right-click a link, the options come down and you can click "open link in new tab" to do such without affecting the first tab.

Yes, I am doing that, but I shouldn't *have* to. Ctrl-click is standard browser behavior and websites shouldn't interfere with it.

For as long as I have used computers, I have always used the right-click option. In fact, I've never met anyone who used "Ctrl+click" instead. Maybe for a certain sect of people - I have a major techie friend that spends all day, every day coding an online game he admins who probably views user interface much differently than the common person - but to me, it really doesn't seem like that big of a deal. If Ctrl+click doesn't work, spend the extra half a second right clicking. If I want Cocoa Puffs but I only have Lucky Charms, I don't run out to the store at 8am to buy a single box of Cocoa Puffs for breakfast, I just have Lucky Charms or whatever else I have in the house.

I do not use the right click or control click. I simply click on the link with my mouse wheel to open it in a new tab. That works for me.

Middle click (mouse wheel) here as well. I've never even heard of the ctrl click shortcut before this.

Edit: ctrl click is for links in Microsoft Word documents, apparently. I guess the need to know that never came up for me. Or I just did copy and paste instead.

i do ctrl+click but make sure to be fast enough before it opens.

i suggested a long time ago to make the "subscribe by email to future updates" be unchecked by default, but no one ever cared enough to do so. cant be that hard to change it.

Based on CNE's main motivation, I hardly think any excess work will be done, here. If I'm not mistaken, it was Erika who mentioned that she and the whole team is aware of the clunky software, but it is doing its job so far. Honestly, I think resources are best spent to develop the game further. And yeah, as bad as it might sound, this includes even smaller things which might be possible to implement within a day. If you check CNE's short team bios, 'they' are mostly game artists, game designers and game developers not neccessarily proficient in the language which was used to build this forum.

Also, Viktyr: I'm using Firefox and the ctrl-click, too. Curse of a habit to use both keyboard and mouse for a quicker way to organize browsing. However, it works fine for me over here.

Like Andreas said, it really just boils down to time and effort management. You have a long list of things to do. Which ones do you do first? The most important ones. The forums work fine, so there is no point allocating attention to "fixing the forums" when that time and energy can be better spent on more important projects that actually matter. Decs are generally okay with being given feedback by the players, but when they are getting bombarded by tons of insignificant complaints, it stops being helpful and just becomes annoying.

Offer feedback, but also keep in mind what you are saying. Consider what it is like from the other side. One or two "This could be better"s is fine, but when it goes into three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, etc criticisms, it just becomes white noise met with a reply of "Why are you participating in something you don't seem to be enjoying?" Helping stops feeling like helping when it begins suggesting the other side is "doing everything wrong" or "doing everything less-than-optimal." The people running the game are still human, you know. Constant nitpicking does get irritating. Especially something as insignificant as "I shouldn't have to right-click."

I don't mean to sound rude or confrontational. Just defending the devs, who are trying hard enough as it is.

It's a house-made forum. (And forum suggestions would belong in the Forum Feedback area, not the Crusaders game suggestions area.)

We're happy with the functionality as it is, but I will add your requests to the forum suggestion list.

@erika: im aware of what its for. my point is if you want to be notified, then make us check it. i doubt everyone wants to be notified on every post they comment on and therefor leaves a lot of unchecking to do if you are one who posts regularly-ish. if anything, put in an option to toggle between automatically checked/unchecked. neither one of these solutions should take more than 5 mins to do.
