I suggest CoTLI has a few mini-games to pass the time while we wait to rack up gold. These mini-games will provide upgrade for the crusaders and some other rewards.

I'm suggesting a Tower Defense game where the crusaders will be the "towers". They will have 5 levels and some upgrades too.

I suggest 10 maps (map 1 will be easiest and map 10 hardest) with easy, normal and hard modes for each map. Harder modes will have higher rewards of course.

You will kill monsters and they will give you some gold to buy upgrades just like any other tower defense game.

Attack speeds - 7 levels for speed
extremely slow
very slow
slow
average
fast
very fast
extremely fast

To add another level of difficulty to this, some monsters will be able to damage towers and maybe disable some of their upgrades until you spend some gold to repair it.

I'll suggest a few of the upgrades and such things for some crusaders so you get a better idea of the suggestion:

Fire Phoenix - Level 1
Dmg: 1500-1800
Speed: Fast
Attack range:
+ 150 dmg, and range boost per level. Very fast speed at level 5.
Upgrades:
1) Monsters hit by this "tower" are set on fire - 250 DPS for 10s
2) Speed and range upgrade
3) After a monsters is hit by this tower they are 50% more likely to receive critical damage from any tower

Gold Panda - Level 1
Dmg: 900
Speed: Average
Attack range:
+ 100 dmg and range boost per level
Upgrades:
1) 25% more gold from all monsters
2) Speed and range upgrade
3) +30% crit chance for this tower

King - Level 1
Dmg: 2000 - 2200
Speed: Average
Attack range:
+ 250 dmg and range boost per level
Upgrades:
1) Huge boost to attack range
2) A knight with with 500 HP is summoned every 10 seconds to slow down monsters
3) +100 damage

The numbers here arn't really important, they're just there to aid the suggestion and show the difference between the crusader towers I suggested.

Rewards and advantages:
Map 1-3 on easy mode rewards 1 silver chest - can only be attempted once per day
Map 4-6 on easy mode rewards 2 silver chests - can only be attempted once per day
Map 7-9 on easy mode rewards 4 silver chests - can only be attempted once per day
Map 10 on easy mode rewards 1 jewel chest - can only be attempted once per day

Map 1-3 on normal mode rewards 2 silver chest - can only be attempted once per day
Map 4-6 on normal mode rewards 4 silver chests - can only be attempted once per day
Map 7-9 on normal rewards 1 jewel chests - can only be attempted once per day
Map 10 on normal mode rewards 2 jewel chest - can only be attempted once per day

Map 1-3 on hard mode rewards either 4 or 8 hour time warp - can only be attempted once per day
Map 4-6 on hard mode rewards 10 random buffs of either blue or purple quality - can only be attempted once per day
Map 7-9 on hard rewards 3 jewel chests - can only be attempted once per day
Map 10 on hard mode rewards 50% increase on attack speed in CoTLI after first completion (DPS will be turned into DPHS (dmg per half second) - Rewards 25 idols after first completion - can only be attempted once per day
