Ideas for Making Jason Good

Ok devs, let's be honest here, Jason sucks. His only non-self DPS skill is his weird anti-aggro thing, so he obviously is trying to be a DPS, but one of his skills (Ambush) is hard to use and he only has one self DPS item. His gold bonus item also means that he is in every farming formation that doesn't include Pete. Jason either needs some serious buffs to his self DPS skills, or needs to be retooled. I have a few ideas of how we can do that. I don't know Jason's backstory (if he even has one) so I'm just going to go with things that make sense with his ninjaness, and retool him as a buffer that can still do well with tanking strategies. I'm also thinking he could be somewhat flexible, like Groklok/Drizzle and Larry are.

Night Vision: Increase your critical click chance by 3%. This buff would help both clicking strategies and passive criticals.
Subtle Deflection: Unchanged. This will still matter later.
Crouching Jason, Hidden Jason: Unchanged. Self DPS skills are still useful for early game players.
X-Ray Vision: Increase the DPS of all crusaders by 30% if there is another crusader in front of Jason. X-Rays help him point out where to attack. The 30% number is arbitrary and could be changed.
Use the Force: Swordplay buff. I'm still missing Nate and Merci's click buff items, so I think another swordplay buff would be good.
Ambush: Increase the DPS of all crusaders by 200% when another crusader in the same column as Jason is being attacked. I like the idea of ambush, but Jason just doesn't make a good DPSer as it is. This would be mutually exclusive with X-Ray Vision, and again, this number might need to change.

With a departure from his (attempted) role as a DPSer, it might make sense to replace Jason's self DPS item with something useful to his new role as a buffer. The goggles could buff his X-Ray Vision and Ambush abilities, increase crit chance or damage, or increase click damage.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

Jason is underpowered. He needs a revamp.

I have no problem with him. I use him in formations that have multiple front rank slots, and put my tank characters (The Pumpkin if there are 2 slots, Pumpkin and Thalia if 3) in the other positions. His anti-taunt plus the 100% gold bonus he gives me makes this a great spot for him.

Let's be honest, though, tanky builds are quite useless, unless you are in the final stage of a particularly hard objective. In freeplays, you reset when you stop instakilling stuff... I use Jason as well, but the only reason I do that is that he has the epic gold item, while Pete just has the rare one... I don't even care where I put him, he can go anywhere I have room for him, not just the front row...

Jason's only job is to be a 50% gold buff, 40% dps-all buff (with rare/epic gold/dps items). I don't even level him up until I'm ready to reset.

Exactly my point Teschio and Kazazoth. Jason is a must have for idol farming unless you have an equal or better gold item on Pete, but all he contributes comes from his gear. He is the only classic crusader who doesn't have a skill that does something useful for the rest of your formation, be that a gold bonus, crit chance, swordplay buff, or team or targeted DPS buff. The only other crusader who can't help anyone else is Iron Soldierette, who has tanking abilities that are theoretically useful and is geared as a DPS.

I agree with you Smash, mine was an answer to thedude. And I like your suggestion for a Jason rework, because right now he sucks badly. As does phoenix, another crusader that needs a rework.

I think Phoenix is fine where she is. Her job is to cast Vengeful Fury and she does that just fine. Sure, that job isn't the most useful one, but we have plenty of options for DPS buffers even among the classic 20, even if you want them to stand next to Emo. The issue with Jason is his abilities make him look like a DPS, but his items don't match, and his gold item further says you HAVE to use him in a farming formation unless you have Pete. Jason come up and says, "Hey, I wanna be your DPS!" to which you reply, "Sorry Jason, you suck at DPS, maybe you should apply to a different job." So Jason says, "OK, how about I be a buffer?" to which you reply, "Well, it says here you don't have a single skill that can be used for that." Jason says, "Sure, but look at my items, I have a gold find item and a team DPS item!" So you say, "Fine, you're hired, but only because I need the gold bonus and you're the only one who applied."
