So, this is my suggestion to resolve the COMMON problem of "How do I get equipment for past event crusaders?" It's simple: Add a jeweled chest to the shop that drops gear for any event crusaders that are currently owned by the player (will not drop gear for crusaders not owned). Obviously since they're jeweled chests they will guaranteed drop 2 gears with 1 guaranteed rare or higher. They should cost the same as (or maybe a tiny bit more then?) the regular jeweled chests.

For the purpose of this idea, let's call these chests "tier 2" chests. I feel like this would be advantageous because it allows the continuance of the natural progression of the game. Then, eventually when all of the crusaders have a second crusader already, a third tier of crusaders could be added (eventually).
