Why in the world is companion EXP limited to 50,000

I'm sorry, but I'm completely baffled by this change. There's exactly 0 reason to limit companion EXP, let alone to an amount this small. This needs to get changed back to what it was in alpha.

The Companion XP limit increases as your tavern levels up, with a minimum value of 50k (that applies for the first 20 levels or so). At max level (30) the limit is around 230k. The reason we had to limit it is because we want companion xp to maintain relevance going forward into future updates. We don't want to be in a situation where max level players have saved up millions and millions of companion xp and are able to rush all their companions up to the max level without having to care about it.

But that shouldn't matter. You can't max out your companions until your shard is maxed out, which you can't do until your level is maxed out. Even if people have millions of companion exp they can't just spend it all in one shot.

The issue is when we increase the level cap to 40. A player who has been stuck at level 30 with their companions levelled up to 30 for a long time would have a ton of companion xp stored up (assuming no cap).

Right, I get that. But they still have to level themselves to level 40, level their shard to level 40 then the tavern to level 40. Even if they have a lot of companion exp built up, they can't just max their companions instantly because they still have to take the time to level all that other stuff first. It's not really slowing anything down.

That's true, but even in that case they wouldn't ever care about companion xp again. They'd always have enough to level all of their companions up whenever they upgrade their tavern.

We eventually want players to be presented with choices about which companions they level up first, because they don't have enough xp to level them all up right away.

Though in Alpha, I never managed to max out on companion xp, I always had tons to spare, so I can see what Justin is saying..

It was not until I had acquired two more companions that I had to actually watch my companion xp and where I was spending it, because as your companions level, they require a higher amount of xp. One minute I had tons of the stuff... the next minute I didn't have enough to level everyone, so I had to choose... this helps build strategy.. you have to decide which companions will ultimately be more worth leveling..

Have to agree with Justin and the Devs on this one. I don't think the cap needs to be taken away and the cap seems well set in terms of what is required to level a companion versus what can be stored. If you have the full amount available when the new content releases, you will still get a number of companion levels instantly as you level up. Also, with 4 companions (maybe more with new content) to level up, you will spend that xp quite quickly and still have something to work for in the new content.

If you're not going to change the limit, then you should at least change it so you can't get companion exp as an end of mission reward if it's currently at max. Same for gold/lumber for that matter.

Tsukasa - I think it is asking a lot of the dev team to take time away from fixing actual bugs and adding legitimate new content, to develop a work-around for something that only exists because we are in a limited roll-out beta. There is no reason for you to ever hit max gold unless you have not been diligent.

The gold can be used in shard quarry, enchanting (unless you are max all around), it can be contributed and stockpiled in guild for casino spins and skill tower. The companion xp and lumber issue is a short term issue. I think most of us would prefer they fix desert, roll the new content, etc. before wasting time making sure I get something other than wood.

Oh get over yourself and save the lectures for someone else. It's a legitimate suggestion. It's not just the devs responsibility to do everything for the players that have time to play every single day and are already maxed out, but people at all stages of the game. It's a legitimate irritation to finish a level only to get rewarded with something that's a total waste because you're maxed out on something. Further, some of us try to be conservative in spending our resources and don't just blow our money/lumber/exp on every single thing that comes up. I shouldn't lose out because of that.

So what you are saying is that you aren't high level, you haven't maxxed out, and you only have so much companion xp because well, you just want to save it up?

They have a TV show for you. It's called Hoarders. Clearly no reason in trying to talk sense with you. Enjoy your 50,000 companion xp.

I've spent all the exp I can so far, however I know from playing the alpha that the later levels are expensive, so yes, I want to save up however much I can. That's not a rocket science idea. Not everyone likes sitting around grinding the same levels over and over again just to earn a handful of stuff because couldn't save anything as we leveled up. I suppose you're mad that I save my luck runes and gems for level 30 too. Oh and I don't enchant my equipment either so I can save my gold for higher levels, wanna throw more insults at me for that too?

Let's try to keep it constructive, folks. Things that frustrate players (like not being able to pick up companion xp or getting gold/lumber/cexp from a mission reward when you're maxed) are issues we would eventually like to address in some way.
