I won over 8600. It kind of surprised me! I wasn't expecting to win with such a big multiplier.

As I said, it appears there is a soft cap. You might exceed the cap with a token win but after that there are no more awarded.

I did notice the multiplier cap appears to be higher. In previous events you could not use a multiplier higher that 100x but this one does not seem to have that limitation.

hi colleen sorry should have written what i thought wasnt farei think the 5000 cap isnt fare when u keep playing and cant win any more till u use those tokens had heaps of hammers and stars but wasnt winning tokens

One thing to remember is that if you go below the 5000 token limit you will start winning tokens again. This is actually the most generous of all the events when you look at the total number of stars, hammers and multipliers you are able to get from the plants. Especially if you have a large number of friends to water the trees.
