That sounds like you might be running out of RAM or something... Could one of you, if you're on Windows, perhaps leave the Task Manager open to the Performance tab and watch the Memory usage as you play? If you could snap me a screenshot of it when your game gets into that state again, that'd be great! You can email it to bw2support@codenameentertainment.com.

Alas, I am not a computer literate person, so I have no idea how to watch the Memory usage and no idea how to snap a screenshot. It is one of the reasons I never submit my coloring pages.
