I love the Biggest Loser reference to Bob and Jill! That is brilliant, keep up the good work, David and Justin. It adds another fun layer to this game! How many other references can you find?

Would the cemetery behind the store in New Haven count? Or is that technically an internal reference?

The game is crawling with references to Pokemon, but unlike most Pokemon-like games, this one doesn't try to put up a facade to convince us that it's really not based on Pokemon. The game is filled with references saying "yeah, we got the idea from Pokemon, we're not going to lie about it".

As opposed to what other games have said:
"We're not based on Pokemon, now please choose a starter from these 3, one is a fire type, one is a water type, and one is a grass type."
"We're not based on Pokemon, when your monsters reach a certain level they evolve."

Evolve is a big one, since the process is, in fact, never evolving, and Pokemon's labeling of the process as evolution was a mistake that they ultimately decided to go with anyways. If these other games truly weren't based on Pokemon, then they wouldn't have made the same mistake. While a rapid physical body change in a creature can go by many terms, depending on the type of creature it is, "metamorphosis" is one of the more common types, as well as that process that dinosaurs were recently discovered to go through (as dinosaurs grow older, their bone structure changes).

Chrono trigger, House, and I'm not sure if the rival is a pokemon reference or just a generic mocking of any rival in any game. I thought I saw a dr. who reference but I was playing swtor last night and it may have been in there.

Chrono Trigger with the waking up, going to the fair, and the teleporter. Loled and my hubby asked why. If there was a Dr. Who reference I'm disappointed I missed it.

The boy scout who blocks the path southward of New Haven says "A Challenger Approaches!"

This is the line always stated in Super Smash Bros. Brawl whenever you're about to unlock a new character.

Edit:
(he actually says "A Challenger Appears!", so I guess it's not a reference to Brawl) :[

It's actually probably a reference to BW's town - Haven.

The Whiny Trainer in the Deep Forest says he was going to Vale to pick up some power converters.

"But I was going to go to the Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!" is a line from Star Wars.

So there's a trainer named "Unshaven Trainer" near the fortune teller's tent. When I saw him, I immediately thought "he looks an awful lot like George Lucas..."

I went up to talk to him and this is what he said:
"I've got this great idea for a movie! It's like a space opera, but set in a long, long time ago, in a far away galaxy."

If you think that fact is a reference to Miscrits, you're very mistaken. 4 is a very common number for RPG "teams" to have in general. Miscrits is a lot less original than their creators try to claim it is.

In the pink house in the NW part of New Haven, a girl tells you about legendary trainers like "Herman Oak".

Professor Oak is a very important character in the original Pokemon games. Guardian Master Bob's role in the game serves more or less the same role Professor Oak did.

The George Lucas trainer, when you challenge him, exclaims "It's a trap!" a la Admiral Ackbar.
When you beat him, he yells "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" a la Darth Vader.

Heh, the third form of Orkkid looks kind of like a Cthulhu.

Note: You cannot actually own one of these yet, but if you own an Orkhan and go to it's entry in the Database, you can view what the third form will look like.
