The only reason to not spend your idols is because you're saving up for something. Spent idols still give the DPS and gold bonuses.

Once you get to a certain point, you should basically be alternating points in each DPS talent (ignoring bad ones like SiC in most cases) because when you buy one, its score goes down, then when you buy the next, that one's score goes down, and so on, till the first one has the highest score again. The point at which that starts will be different for different people, and getting a new epic on your DPS or their alt changes the Swap Day/Well Equipped numbers, and changing your crit chance will change your Passive Criticals numbers, but if nothing changes, once all talents give about the same score, you will be alternating between them for the most part.

While I don't recommend doing that, as it's a generally inefficient use of your idols unless you naturally get close, you can do what you want.

I just created a google account only so I could get an uncorrupted copy of your calculator. Now I'm trying to figure out google docs for the first time. Feel like an idiot. I could copy and save it using excel but then microsoft guts it. Sorry, but I could use help. Thanks

no account is needed, but it's good having a google account for not just their gmail and google docs but the google drive 'cloud'.

just below the 'Lost Idols Smashulator' is a 'file' click that and 'download as'...
that should copy the sheets and macros and be usable standalone in Excel or open office...
