David Whittaker (CNE Dev)Hi Everyone,
As I am sure you are all curious we are hard at work on the upcoming Jungle area. It is taking us longer than we would have hoped, and part of that is learning what is needed to make a major update work in Shards. That includes making sure all the end game systems such as Heroics, The Paragon Brotherhood, and Hall of Trials upgrade properly to a new level cap, making sure the new content is balanced to be challenging and interesting for players of all power levels, while making sure that players who have decked themselves out still remain awesome by making sure that you have a way to upgrade and improve all that hard earned epic gear. To that end we have some major systems and balance changes that we will be rolling out over the next couple of weeks to get us to where we need to be so we can release the Jungle. *** All systems and functionality described here is subject to change. These are our current thoughts and prototypes. *** Level Effectiveness - Differences in level will have an effect on the amount of damage you do to / take from monsters and players who are not the same level as you or your companions. This will result in monsters that are lower level than you taking more damage and monsters that are higher level than you taking less. Additionally equipment level will also be a factor making it more valuable to have equipment that is the same level as you are. We will be rebalancing the HoT around this as to not reduce the current amount of tokens you can earn each day there. Improved Battle Rating - We have reworked the way battle rating is calculated to be more heavily weighted towards the amount of damage you can do, and how fast you do it. Currently the health component of the rating overshadows everything making the rating a poor indicator of your combat potential. The new rating calculation will be a combination of the Attack Rating (which includes speed, and crit), 10% of the health rating, your armor rating, and the new level effectiveness rating. This new rating should be a much more accurate indication of your combat potential. Skills and Luck withstanding. Companion Equipment - Companions will be able to equip any equipment you have collected provided they meet the level requirements. This will be normal player equipment so it will be upgradable in the Blacksmith in the usual ways including gems and reforging. While it has always been our intention that companions not be as powerful as the main hero, it was never our intention that they be effectively "meat shields" as some players have described them. To that end being able to equip Rare and Epic gear on your companions should go a long way to making them effective members of your team. Companions will have the option to appear wearing their usual clothing, or appear in the equipment you have equipped on them. Crafting Gear - To help fill in the blanks as you level up, and to help you fill out your companions gear Uncommon and Rare gear will soon be available for crafting at the blacksmith. The level of the crafted gear will be at the level of your Blacksmith or the level max of the recipe you have for it, so to go along with being able to craft gear your Blacksmith will now be upgradable. Upgrading the Blacksmith will most likely cost scrap. There are a few other items in the pipe, including Heroic Multiplayer and an Upgrade System for Epic Gear. I will post more about those systems after the items above have been rolled out. *** Again keep in mind all of this is in development and subject to change.*** Please post any questions, comments, or concerns and I will be happy to clarify what I can. We don't have a set release date, but I am hoping to have much of this ready to go in the next 5 to 7 days. So be on the lookout for these changes mid to late next week. -David |

Cruz.That's awesome news!
A big thanks from my side too for your hard work so far! :) I love to see the potential of the game unfold! - So I assume HoT 40 will be really hard to beat now. (Not that I mind a challenge or two...) Plus the equipment level part sounds like it makes blue Bounty gear useful finally. - Armor rating? Does that include magic resistance, as well? - About the companion part: What is the free slot for they currently have? Or will it completely be rearranged? Kind of unrelevant but I'm curious. - Will Gear recipes be available in the shard shop or for gold? (I assume first one, but can't hurt to ask.) And will we be able to forge equipment for other classes? The companion part suggests so, but just for clarification again. - And last, will Heroic MP drop Epics, like the Valentine's Event? Can't wait to see what the changes will actually look like ingame. :D |

OducbiLast Edited March 11th 2015 at 7:36 PM Could this be the answer to all of our dreams? Of course not folks, but it is a giant step in the right direction.
We appreciate all of your dedication to this project and the many sleepless night you have sacrificed to make sure that our community stays up to date and satisfied with the massive project that is Shards of Titan. Remember that all of the questions, posts, interest and scrutiny don't happen if people don't care about the product. What you have here is a great success and we know that you can grow that with a successful release. Thank-you for your hard work, Oducbi/Oducme |

David Whittaker (CNE Dev)Hi Cruz,
For the Hall of Trials, we are thinking of having the bosses more frequently so you can still earn the same number of tokens each day before hitting the level barrier. The armor rating includes magic resistance. The free slot on companions was set aside for a companion trinket, but we plan to just make it a ring slot. The uncommon gear recipes will come unlocked, the rare gear recipes will be drops and mission rewards - or in the shardium store. You will be able to craft gear for the other classes so you can craft for your companions. Haven't decided what the heroic mp's will drop other than the upgrade tokens at this point. -David |

MrPTThanks for the update on how things are progressing and understand the difficulties in ensuring it is balanced for everyone as you have now players waiting for a while and maxed on everything aswel as new players that will enter the jungle with no epic gear etc.
On the note of this balance i cant help but think back to the problems of the valentines event that was way too difficult for new level 30 players, how will you be calculating the difficulty of the mobs on entering the new area, heroic mps and the new jungle mp, especially with the way people were creating alt accounts to reduce the level difficulty of the valentines mp. Will you be using the new BR maybe? Companion equipment is a much warranted update, not sure i would go as far as gems but its still awesome. Please dont use scrap for upgrading blacksmith, we hate wood, lets get rid of that stuff, with no wood or companion xp sink they get annoying when its the only prize you constantly get. Heroic mps. Love it, bring it on. You state you are not sure on the rewards, well i would like to see wood and companion xp removed from the pool with a more generous pool on supplementary items such as gems, craft gear(when we need it), luck runes, with a slightly higher than current chance on socket rods(seriously) and potions. The level or quality of the gems etc will increase with each heroic mission forest |

TsukasaWMLevel Effectiveness - I don't really have any objections to this, if anything I'm a bit surprised it wasn't like this already. My main concerns though are that I don't want to get stuck having to grind older missions just to be able to finish the next mission in a new shard just because the enemies leveled up, likewise I'm concerned about the difficulty increase to heroic missions that this could cause. .
Improved Battle Rating - No complaints here. The health bias pretty much makes it useless as is so definitely a needed change. Companion Equipment - I'm probably going to be the odd one out here, but....I'm not really that thrilled about this mainly due to the current P2W status of reforging equipment. Gems aren't as bad, provided the current problems with slotting rods get addressed, but I think reforging is skating a thin line. Allow us to spend gold or something to lock stats when reforging and I don't think I'd have any objections. Follow up question, you mentioned being able to equip them with epic/rares, does that mean players will now have access to all 3 types of class equipment in the HoT/Brotherhood stores? Crafting Gear - My main problem here is that after level 15 there's no real point. Right now dropped gear is only useful until you can do MP, then the MP gear is the only thing worth getting while you're grinding out HoT gear. I think it would be more useful to craft expendable items or something. Maybe "Locking Bolts" which could be used to lock stats when reforging, or "Imperfect Slotting Rod" something that offers say, a 25% of unlocking a slot, or crafting more inventory spaces or a storage warehouse to store extra gems/items. Maybe even a craftable steampunk companion that you spend scrap to increase the stats of instead of using equipment? Maybe some general appearance upgrades for our towns, like how the roads and stuff get nicer as we level up the shard. Things like that. |

AnnieI have a question about battle rating... I don't think many have noticed that the armor gear is different for different classes. If armor is going to be a factor in how battle rating is calculated, can you at least confirm or deny that you are going to equalize the current massive gap between warrior's and wizard's armor and hat?

Farflier2Looks good overall, my only question is regarding companions. Personally I don't even use them as "meat shields" -- they are typically just a nuisance. I would love to be able to just leave them behind and actually do missions solo. Would this option be a possibility?

MrPThave to agree with Tsukasa on the crafting especially on the reforging side, something that improves a locked stat another level, for eg if you reforge and get strength but its only +8 instead of the max +120 the ability to craft an item that improves it upto its max would be super awesome.

YackamaryI agree with MrPT, If we are able to lock a stat, and that specific stats changes to another number would be amazing.
So instead of contently reforging an item (Which takes days for free-to-play players to reforge once for epic gear.) trying to get a specific stat like strength, and when you finally do get it, its normally a really low number like 20 or less, and if you reforge the item again, you completely lose the stat you were after in the first place trying to get it higher. It would be very helpful and alot less stressful, if you could Lock a stat, (Like strength) and when you reforge, it will stay on strength but its number value will change ether lower or higher, but at least you could keep the stat you are after. On the issue of locking stats, You could design it so: When your ready to reforge but you want to keep the stats you currently have, (Like the current system) Take scraps instead of shardium. And when you want to change the Number of a pacific stat like Strength, Thats when you could charge a bit of Shardium. What do you guys think? |

ElharithLast Edited March 12th 2015 at 8:13 AM While I generally like the idea that companions will be upgradeable, I have to agree with Farflier, I would also like the option to be able to leave them at the tavern now and then. We were able to do that in alpha, and that was the only way I got close to completing the mission with the disappearing chests (I think Search the Thief Camp?). With my unsteady, slow hands, there is no way I can do it with the companions on board. I have even admitted to being willing to pay shardium to 3 star that mission it is so difficult at present. Everything else I have been able to 3 star with some level of difficulty, but they were all doable. That one is impossible for me.
On reforging. I agree with the previous suggestions about being able to lock a specific stat category (like intel) and reforge to improve that stat rather than make it an all or nothing choice. At the moment I often settle for a mid-range stat rather than take the chance of losing it entirely. I would like to be able to reforge to improve things I have as well as get things I don't have. |

David Whittaker (CNE Dev)Thanks for the comments and feedback so far.
MrPT, In regards to the starting balance for the jungle we will probably start with it balanced around needing all rare (blue) level gear, and then balance towards getting higher level gear that will be available in the Jungle as it progresses. Higher level and quality of gems is certainly something we can consider putting as higher difficulty rewards. Tsunkasa, Companions being able to equip normal gear is going to be a huge improvement to their effectiveness regardless of reforging. We recognize some players are not entirely comfortable with the premiumness of the reforge system, but it is off topic for this discussion thread. It is our intention to make the other class gear available in the HoT and Paragon so you can buy it for your companions. In regards to crafting, rare gear (blue) is what you earn doing multiplayer instances so this offers an alternative way to get some of those items. Additionally with the new level effectiveness being able to replace an item with something closer to your level will also become useful. Obviously this loses its value when you get up to max level and are focused on getting epics, so having some items that you can craft that help with that is not a bad idea. Crafting is a system we have a lot of room to explore. Annie, It is intentionally that warriors have more armor than wizards. It's our intention that classes be as equal as possible but also different from each other - not just copies of skills and stats with different names and graphics - this, while a greater challenge for us, should make a less boring game for our players overall. Class balance will continue to evolve as we update and add more content. But we will continue to give wizards less armor because...... they are wizards! -David |

David Whittaker (CNE Dev)Hi Farflier,
Unfortunately as it stands you can't leave your companions behind because many of the missions are scripted expecting they are present. As Elharith comments you could go without them during the alpha and that is how we discovered that it just wasn't going to work for certain scripts if they were absent. Now this is something we could go back through every mission and script and make sure it was possible without - but that doesn't seem like the direction we want to go when we have so much new content to get out. -David |

David Whittaker (CNE Dev)Hi Yackamary,
Obviously the reforging system is something that players have interest in and ideas for. This isn't a system we are focused on right now but I have made a note of the comments and concerns being voiced. -David |

ElharithDavid,
If wizards need less armor because they are wizards, we need some of our pew pew back. Just sayin'. If there is any question about our lack of damage these days, take a look at the number of wizards represented in the overall damage scores on the top of the leader boards. The only ones there are folks who have paid premium shard to boost their stats. |

KhaleSorry if this is off topic, but I can't find any info - is the Kronos server down? I keep getting a Disconnect message when trying to log on and no error code.

David Whittaker (CNE Dev)Hi Elharith,
Class balance will continue to evolve as we update and add more content. I see the ranks but am not sure if this isn't a result of better multi-target damage or what, but we will get a change to look at it as we balance the Jungle. |
