Sorry for the inconvenience. There was a bug with chest opening that should be stable now. The moment you open a chest, the contents are saved to the server. You just don't get the gold stars since those are cleared by a refresh. The only thing lost is gold from normal Silver Chests and we're looking into that. You can view your history by hitting "p" and it will list the contents of those chests so you can see what you got.
